Dear diary,
They made us stand.
I remember them first floating the idea of all standing anchors back in 2017. I scoffed then, and I scoff now. I’m livid. We’re no better than the weather girls now; and yes, I include Brian in that.
This whole damn studio has been going down hill since Maggie got rid of Des.
I don’t know what Sharon’s so happy about. She’s been grinning like a Cheshire cat since the castors clacked down the corridor. She loved sitting next to me and she knows it.
Worst of all, they expect me to wear pants!
This flash fiction/short story, call it what you will, was written for Friday Fictioneers.
I’m not sure why the last two stories have followed a slight theme. I can assure you I’m not broody!
Thanks to Rochelle as ever for hosting. Click here to read this week’s stories from other writers around the world.
He was naked from the waist down when they were sitting? Yikes!
Indeed; I don’t think he’s a very nice man.
Remember when we discovered Angela Rippon had legs though?
Pants are a must. News in Y-fronts or even boxer shorts would make the self-harm rates go up 😀
Dear Peter,
Your story makes me think of the newscasters on Zoom who don’t dare stand up. So I guess the standing newscasters was a universal decision. Nice reading as always.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Haha, the precious TV talent! I’ve met a few like that…
Wear pants? The indignity of it all!
Laughing.
What’s a boy to do!
So funny. News reporting is just stripped down show-biz, and it does seem to produce spoiled little men (and women).
As opposed to. . . . no pants? Boxers? A skirt? I know! A speedo!
That last line tho…. Good one.
I remember a certain Kenny Lynch who wasn’t averse to shocking the studio crew that way! Good one.
Wonder if this has ever happened… haha.
I often wondered what went on beneath the desk, now I don’t have to though I must say, I often yell ‘sit down’ at my telly when they won’t stand still!
My story!
This was funny. I’ve seen too too many “half-dressed” newspersons… suit tie on top or fancy blouse and jewels, jeans on bottom…
