You say tomato

“Vase.”

“That’s what I said dear – Vase.”

“No, vase.”

“Vase.”

“No, no… vase.”

“Vase”

“With an “arr”.” Joyce rolled her tongue as she elongated the sound.

Mary-Anne looked at the Union Jack hanging limply outside the window. “Vase,” she replied stoney-faced, “with an “ay”.”

Joyce snorted.

“Come. We can’t miss the coach and it’s a fair walk up the path.” Joyce pulled her coat tight. “Damn this Autumn weather; I should have worn a jumper. I could murder a biscuit and a cuppa. Are you a dunker, Mary-Anne?”

Mary-Anne tried to follow as she quickly checked her bag for her passport.
