David knows best

“It’s beautiful,” cooed Maureen.
“I’ve never seen it do that,” exclaimed Denise.
“I wonder what the point of it is?” Questioned Sarah to nobody in particular.

The History Group looked on in awe and serenity, admiring the beauty of the Timeball Tower until David cleared his throat. It was always David.

The group groaned in unison.

“Well actually,” he began, “The Timeball Tower was constructed as a means for ships to set their chronometers; with accuracy being essential for successful navigation on long ocean voyages.”

This was, of course, quite interesting information.
But they still thought David was a dick.

    Dear Mr. B.

That last line made me chuckle. There’s always that know-it-all who’s devoid of any endearing qualities, isn’t there? Nicely done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

Oops, I cast off too quick for the convoluted WordPress comment procedure I think. I said I thought we all had a David in our midst, and expressed the hope it wasn’t me. Lovely photo. Dorset?

It’s Deal, Kent. Moved here in 2019 and am so glad to be here.

      Thanks for reading.

Oh dear, I see myself in David. Good story that has the ring of truth. Pedantry is a loser in most social group settings, I think.

The Davids of this world are to be taken in small doses only. Poor fellow. I hope somebody takes him in hand and helps him improve his social graces. I love this story – and as one who has led similar ‘History group’ excursions, I was taken right back through the years with this one. Wonderful.

Had to laugh at this one! Following the niceties of social interaction is not David’s cup of tea!

There is a David in every group, isn’t there? This was fun!

  11. Angela

Bwahahaha! I also have a David (also named David) who I adore but who sometimes (okay, often) has to reel it in… Thanks for the laughs!

“It was always David.” Sigh. Don’t be like David.

  14. James McEwan

Comedy at its best. I suspect everyone already knew the details about the Time-ball Tower, but that’s David for you.

  15. GHLearner

Starting with ‘well, actually’ always makes people a dick. Fun story.

  16. Michael B. Fishman

With respects to all the Davids I know in life, there’s a “David” in every crowd, isn’t there? Smart as a whip and who cares?!? Fun story with a LOL ending.

  17. Dawn M. Miller

    I know this character well.

I partake in many group trips at home and abroad, and none of them would be complete with a David! Nice one!
