This one goes out to the one I love

PHOTO PROMPT © Rochelle Wisoff-Fields

My dearest love,

I know that it’s been too long but I hope you’ll give this letter a chance before emotion compels you to instantly toss it.

I’ve written these words a thousand times, but only now do they seem to flow naturally. I can but apologise for the time they have taken, but here they are and they are yours to hold close.

And hold them you must. So much pain has come of this already. Tears have become rivers. I know there is a hole where once your heart danced.

My darling, hear me.

It wasn’t your fault.

Hey, Listen

  1. Neil MacDonald

I’m not entirely convinced he’s said the right thing

  2. The Sicilian Storyteller

Very nice, Mr. B …. but if you want to win her back, man up and say “It was all my fault”. That’ll make her heart dance!

    1. MrBinks

I never gendered this story 😉

      1. The Sicilian Storyteller

Haha! You’re right! Was that intentional? How’s this:

but if you want to win your love back, own it and say “It was all my fault”. Hearts will dance!

      2. MrBinks

It genuinely was. I had to break my story naming convention for this one just to land it!

      3. The Sicilian Storyteller

It was perfectly done, too. So well, in fact, it went right over my head. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Wow, this one is hard-hitting even without knowing the backstory, Mr B. The reader can imagine any number of reasons for this letter to be needed, and I wonder how it will be received.

  4. msjadeli

My mind is swimming with possibilities on what happened. Guilt can come from so many sources. Good story, MrBinks.

  5. msjadeli

p.s. Did the receiver really need to read it, or did the sender really need to send it?

  6. Dawn M. Miller

That doggone title has given me an ear worm!
    Very poetic and romantic story.

  7. Dale

This note can be read so many different ways. We have no idea what has occurred and I love that.

Unlike others, I don’t know that it would be better for the letter-writer to claim responsibility because we don’t know the what’s what.

    Very nicely done, Mr. B!

Sometimes, the less said, the better. I hope “It wasn’t your fault” is all the reader will need.

  9. plaridel

sometimes don’t work. feelings should be expressed in person.

  10. Margaret

So much unsaid here – ironic in that the letter itself is the culmination of the writer’s need to say everything that needs to be said. I really like the open-endedness of this. You’ve shown us the heart of the letter writer and left us to fill in the blanks, in a very satisfying way. Whether or not the writer’s telling/facing the truth, we just don’t know.

  11. Meha Sharma

I hope the letter reached its intended destination. A bitter sweet tale of love and loss.

    Dear Mr. B,

You leave me with many questions. I hope the other person will repsond and this will be an open door to communication.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

I love this! ❤ It brought tears to my eyes.. but still I loved it. One of the things I was encouraged to do when I was in hospital last fall was to write final letters to my loved ones (Yep, I was that sick before I checked myself out and took my care into my own hands, and survived!). This reminds me of a letter or two that I did write.

  14. James McEwan

Forgiveness is a difficult emotion to overcome, good letter. Without the background to the situation, I will sit on the fence and wonder.

  15. Angela Adams

I feel so many different emotions and questions and I wonder about the intent of the writer and response of the reader… Well done!

It is never too late to make concessions, whether well-received or not, the act of doing so will bring peace. The added sound effect of the keyboard is a nice touch!
