Captain Crackerbarrel Dreams Big

โ€œGrab the harpoon and the nets, boys. Weโ€™re going hunting!โ€ Captain Crackerbarrel barked as he strode across the shingle.

โ€œHarpoon?โ€ Tom and Archie mouthed to each other as they watched the Captain drag his small rowboat over the shelf and into the water.

โ€œCaptain, we catch sprats. We caught sprats yesterday and we caught โ€˜em the day before that. Weโ€™ve been catching sprats for months. We only ever catch sprats.โ€ Archie said.

โ€œDream big, boys. Shoot for the stars, aim for the shark!โ€

Tom turned to Archie, โ€œYou know, with those aspirations of his, weโ€™re gonna need a bigger boat.”

    Dear Mr. B.

Somehow I don’t know that they’re really going to need a bigger boat. I love hearing you read.

    Shalom,

It seems we both wrote mariners with great dreams. I liked Captain Crackerbarrel

      Arrrr!

This has me envisioning Spencer Tracy hauling that huge fish with his little, tiny boat in the film adaptation of Hemmingway’s The Old Man and the Sea. Excellent write!

  4. Clare Hempstead

Methinks sprats is all he’ll ever catch! Nice piece.

  5. James Pyles

    A bigger boat indeed.

  6. Bon Lee

    Good story this week!

I think the sprats are the sharks. His boat will be big enough ๐Ÿ™‚

Loved your voices in this, MrBinks, and how you led us to the punchline. Great photo to imagine to.

  9. James McEwan

I loved the madness of this. The salty sea air and hot sun has gone to the captain’s head. More sprats for tea then.

You win the whimsical award! Great fun! Well written.

  11. Denarii Peters

Very witty. Love the humour! Watch out for that shark: it’s got a taste for sprats in wooden boxes!

  12. Bernadette Braganza

At least now they have an excuse to bring out the bigger boat ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

  13. Keith’s Ramblings

He’s crackers! What next, whales? Nice one, Mr.B.

  14. Dale

What a fun read (and listen – great voices). Methinks Captain has “eyes bigger than his stomach”, so to speak.

  15. Nancy ~ The Sicilian Storyteller

Why, I never heard the term sprats! And I’m married to an old salt. Very fun read, Mr B. Reminds me of something ….. hmm, thinking …. thinking. I’m sure it’ll come to me ๐Ÿฆˆ

    Excellent voices!
