Dave goes to Therapy

Dale Rogerson

โ€œI was running down an endless corridor. It was empty but it went on forever. The floor was sinking beneath my feet. It wasnโ€™t quicksand, at least I donโ€™t think it was. It was like running on โ€ฆ.duvets. And the walls, they seemed to be moving like one of those old-timey cartoon wheels.โ€

โ€œA zoetrope.โ€

โ€œHuh?โ€

โ€œNever mind; please.โ€

โ€œThere was screaming except I couldnโ€™t hear it. Not really. A deafening silence of screaming.โ€

โ€œAnd youโ€™re sure thereโ€™s nothing in your life that could be causing anxiety?โ€

โ€œNo, nothing. Lifeโ€™s good. Ohโ€ฆ we did find out weโ€™re expecting twins.โ€

โ€œCongratulations.”

Thanks to Dale Rogerson for the great photograph this week. It reminded me of this kind of dream. Thanks also to Rochelle who keeps this group running like clockwork. Read more stories based on this prompt here, or give it a go yourself!

I attempted to listen to your reading, but it cut off before transferring me to Soundcloud? Brilliant telling none the less, but I think hearing it would have added to the presentation.

Oh how strange. I’ve tested it and it seems fine. Perhaps try here. Thanks for reading!

Thank you! I just knew the production of the audio would make this piece! Ugh! That ticking clock added just the edge it needed! Brtaxo!

    Dear Mr. B,

Having spent more than a few hours in therapy myself, this rang true. Well done.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

      Thanks, Rochelle.

Ha, ha! Twins run in my family and I was desperate to have twins the first time I was expecting. Eighteen months later, second pregnancy, I dreaded it! The gene obviously skipped past me. I love the ‘like running on duvets.’ It described it perfectly.

Thanks for reading and I’m glad you liked it!

How silly of Dave not to have thought of the twins

    1. MrBinks

I’m not sure he’s the full ticket.

If expecting twins doesn’t cause a mental meltdown I don’t know what would. Good luck to the happy couple.

What a wonderful story to go with the photo. Dreams are just like that, aren’t they? I can’t imagine why he felt so anxious… ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. CGraith

nice laugh! Twins! Nothing anxiety inducing about that!

  8. Keith’s Ramblings

Double trouble on the way! Nice one, Mr B!

Well, well, well, I think the therapist has gotten to the root of the issue! Nicely written.

You described the dream so well! I suppose that is why we go to therapists. To point out the obvious when we miss it entirely. ๐Ÿ™‚ Nice one!

Fun read, Mr. B, and the audio is a perfect addition.
I always wanted twins. My husband is an identical twin. My mother-in-law always said they kept each other happy company. Sounds lovely to me.

When I think of twins I picture the pale evil ones form The Shining. I understand your anxiety.
