Matilda likes the house

Lana walked through the front door and chucked her keys in the bowl by the coats. Jim followed, carrying Matilda and set her down by his feet. She rubbed her eyes and followed her mum through to the kitchen.

“So,” Lana began.

“So!” Matilda parroted.

“What did we think of the new house?”

“It was perfect. Roomy, big garden, so many bathrooms,” Jim replied.

Lana nodded, “I know right? I can’t believe a couple with no family needed so many toilets!” The grown-ups continued as Matilda chimed in.

“I liked the little girl in the kitchen.”

The room grew cold.

Hey, Listen

Written for Friday Fictioneers with the help of a photo from J Hardy Carroll and an anecdote from my sister last week! Definitely not visiting them if they buy that house. NOPE! Nah, ah!
