The Collector

Kevin was a collector.

It had started when he was 7. His friends had amassed an impressive stack of baseball cards and whilst Kevin wasn’t sporty, the thought of collecting excited him.

Not wanting to become a sheep, Kevin chose his own road. It was unusual to collect discarded cigarette butts, sure, but to Kevin, each held a unique story.

Perhaps it was this sort of behaviour that led to Kevin living alone (or perhaps it was the ferocious addiction to pickled onions?) but he didn’t mind. These days he prefers spending time with his collection of bottled sunshine anyway.

Blinds

Sometimes when the sun shines and the shadows form upon the blinds,
I wonder what I’m doing here, sat at work without a beer.
A coffee in my hand instead – I mean it’s nice and all but like I said –
a frothy beverage with a head on top would really satisfy and not
just make me hotter on a Summer’s day instead of chasing the blues away
with an ice cold lager and a bag of nuts, the sun on my face and eyes tight shut.

An elbow in my ear

The sun floods down my back whilst my shadow walks ahead.
The day has just begun with no sadness, fear or dread.

An Elbow in my ear and a goose upon my skin.
A song inside my heart and a mile wide Cheshire grin.

Not today, thanks

Some days are better than others.
Sometimes you get given a whole heap of sunshine.
Some days you don’t want anything else.
Sometimes it’s just enough.
